Tutorial || Halloween hair and makeup

Scary

I was a bit worried about this post, as it’s my first tutorial, so I was a bit nervous, but I think I've coped alright; I hope you find this helpful and I hope it gives you some ideas.

I’m going to split this post in two halves; the first half for makeup and the second half will be hair.

On Saturday (26th October) I went Alton Towers for scare-fest and me and my friends decided to dress up. I don’t know what you’d call this look, but my friend who was dressed the same as me said we were rag-dolls.

This look is quite basic and isn't difficult to create and you probably have all the items that you need already. I also bought some white face paint, but when I put it on, on the Saturday morning I didn't like it, so I took it off, which is a good job as I had already started to react to for the short time that I had it on; the joys of sensitive skin.

Things you’ll need:
·         Black eyeliner
·         Black eye shadow
·         Maybelline colour tattoo in Metallic Pomegranate
·         Red lipstick

Things I used:
Bourjois healthy mix serum in the shade 51
Collection, lasting perfection concealer
Barry M wink eyeliner pen
Sleek i Divine - Au Natural, but just the black shade
Maybelline colour tattoo in Metallic Pomegranate
Revlon lip butter in Candy Apple
Foundation and Concealer brush from Primark
Real techniques expert face brush
Barry M eye shadow brush
Back combing brush
Hairspray

I also used foundation and concealer, but they aren't things that you need, I put it on to make my skin look better, as I wasn't having a good skin day after I had a reaction to the white face paint.
If you are apply foundation then apply your normal amount; I used the bourjois healthy mix serum in the shade 51 and what I did was put one pump on the back of my hand and then use one finger to dab into the foundation and then I dabbed that finger onto my face, leaving circles of foundation of my face, then using the real techniques expert face foundation brush I brushed it in.

Why am I pouting?

Then using the concealer I put three dabs under my eyes and using the concealer end of the Primark brush, gently wiped it into the skin, as you have to be gentle with your under eyes.

The next step is eyeliner, on both eyes I lined the top lid with a thick line and didn't flick it out because I didn't have enough time in the morning to perfect the flicks, but if you have patience, time or find it easy to do flicked eyeliner then you could flick it out.

Next step will involve the black eye shadow, you’ll need an eye shadow; I used one from Barry M which is a bargain! I applied this all over the lid, then a smaller amount in the crease and blended it out using small movements from side to side.

Now you’re going have to go back to the eyeliner and line your bottom waterline.

Eyes done! Now we’re moving onto the mouth, you’ll need the eyeliner; use it to draw a line from the corner of your mouth to just past halfway of your cheek. Your line can be longer or shorter if you want it to, but it should be on both sides of the face. Then on that line draw some little lines going straight through it; I drew around five shorter lines on both sides.

I then drew the exact same thing, but a much smaller version under my right eye. After that I drew the same thing on the left side of my forehead, I started the line close to my hairline and then brought it down close to my eyebrow.

The next step is the bruise. I did this with the Maybelline colour tattoo in metallic pomegranate to create it. I got a lot of compliments about this on the day (as weird as that might sound), but people thought it looked real which was good.

I ran my eye shadow brush under water before using it to rinse it off the black from earlier. Once the brush had dried, I dabbed the brush in the pot and then applied it to the opposite side of my forehead to where the eyeliner is. Apply it in circular motions, blending the colour out, so the colour isn't as strong. Then using the other side of the brush dab it into the black eye shadow only once, as you don’t want a lot of colour on the brush then dab the black into the purple onto the face. You don’t want to use a lot of black, as it will drown out the purple/red.

Then do the exact same thing under the other eye, but a lot smaller.

Last step for the face!

This is where the red lipstick comes in, I don’t own any red lipstick, but I do own a red lip butter which is practically the same thing. Apply it as normal, but then on either side of the mouth, you want it coming off from the lips to look like blood dripping from the mouth.

Face now done!

I didn't get a photo with the lips... oops

Face is now done!

Time for hair; the hair is simple.

I started with is parted in the middle and then took pieces from the front; brought them back and then clipped it back.

Once the hair has been clipped back; I took a backcombing brush and took my layers at the top held it upright and simply backcombed. I know backcombing isn't great for your hair, so the next I used a hair mask to help to repair it and make it stronger.

I couldn't hold the hair straight up, backcomb and take the picture, so that'll have to do

Once the hair is big enough, use hair spray and spray all over the hair, to keep it in place.

And you're done!

I hope you've enjoyed this; I've tried really hard on it. It's a very simple look, but my explaining skills aren't great, so I hope you've been able to follow along easily.

Thank you for reading!

What's In My Bag?

Hello lovelies!

I have decided to do a, what’s in my bag post considering that I never normally take much in a bag if I got out; I’ll normally only take: phone, keys, and purse, but since I went on holiday I had more in my bag than just those three items.

The bag is a bright pink satchel from Primark. I never normally go for bright bags; I’ll normally stick to black or brown, but I really liked this bag and wanted to try something different and step out of my comfort zone. It cost £9 and is well structured. It’s not a massive bag, but it’s big enough for what you need.

(I did also had some prawn and cocktail crisps, but I ate them on the day and we don’t have any in the house)

Headphones: I can’t live without music for a four hour car journey headphones are a must!

Camera: In the picture it’s just the case considering I couldn’t have my camera in the picture and take the picture at the same time. I had to take my camera and I forgot to put it in the suitcase, so it had to go into my bag.

IPhone: Who can live without their phone? No me; that’s for sure! I have the 3G because I’m poor and can’t afford the 4 or 5.

IPod nano: My IPhone battery is shocking, so instead of listening to music off my phone; I used this instead. I’ve had this now for a good couple of years and it’s still good; it may be scratched, but it still works perfectly and that’s all that matters.

Sunglasses: I got these from New Look last year for my holiday and they’re still good. I don’t have a case for them and I didn’t want them to break, so in the bag they went.

Hand sanitizer: I like having clean hands. I don’t have OCD I just like being able to wash my hands after I’ve touched something dirty and with hand sanitizer its quick and easy. I got this brand because I wanted a change and it’s pink and it smells like passion flower & mango. The brand is Cuticura if you wondering.

Baby Lips – Cherry Me: I’m a little bit obsessed with baby lips ok? Cherry me has to be my favourite. I love the colour and it smells amazing!

Chocolate: Who can travel without food? Not me haha

Lush: Cupcake Fresh Face Mask Review

Sometime a while ago I picked up a face mask from Lush called Cupcake. This might sound strange to some, but I have never used a face mask before; never. This is mainly due to the fact that I have sensitive skin and I didn't want to use something which would give me a rash across my face, but in lush the face masks are hand made, fresh and preservative-free. As they are preservative-free this means that they last about three weeks which I don't think is that bad, as I have used it about twice a week for two weeks and it is about half empty, so it will last.

Cupcake was created for 'younger skins', and it claims to:
  • nourish
  • soften
  • tone
  • moisturize
  • absorb grease
  •  and give a deep cleanse

I use the mask on a dry face and work all over the skin avoiding the eyes and mouth (of course.) At first I wasn't sure on how much to use and didn't use a lot, but I learnt that you need a good amount for the face mask to actually do it's job properly. It's advised to leave the mask on for 10-15 minutes and the mask will harden and tighten rather quickly to which I'm not a fan of to be honest, but it's bearable.

This is a face mask designed for oily skin, but to be honest I don't have oily skin, as I'm not prone to breakouts and I've never had acne; I'd say that my skin type is dry. With saying that I feel like this face mask still worked wonders even though on the parts of my skin that are more dry it would often feel very tight even once the mask is off, so I'd put some vitamin E cream on them parts and it's job done. This face mask also has helped to reduce the redness that I have in my cheeks which is amazing, as it really did tone it down a lot and I really struggle to reduce the redness.

The texture of the mask is quite thick, but I think that it's quite hard to spread, as it will go patchy and you will need to make sure that all the skin is well covered. As for the scent... it's not the best and when my brother smelt it straight from the pot he nearly passed out (may sound dramatic, but it's true,) as the smell is really strong and is nothing like chocolate unless that chocolate is couple of years out of date.

Yay:

Leaves skin feeling soft and smooth
Helps to clean out pores
Reduces redness
Not to messy when taking off
Refreshing
Not very expensive - (£5.95)

Nay:

The smell
It can be difficult to spread because of the texture
Has to be used within three weeks
Probably won't become essential to your routine, as it is not a staple or a must have and is just a nice
Not brilliant for dry skin

Overall:

Brand: Lush

Product: Fresh face mask

Type: Cupcake

Price: £5.95

Where to buy: Lush

Package quality:  4.5 (Mines gone sticky)

Overall rating: (out of five) 4.5, if my skin was oily then a five, but it's not, so four haha

Recommend?: I would recommend this to anyone who has oily skin or to anyone who has a natural redness to their face.

Grade: A

Barry M Wink black eyeliner pen

Would you be surprised if I told you that I've never tried any Barry M product other than their nail varnish?

When my previous eyeliner had ran out, I knew I didn't want to repurchase the same one and then this one really caught my eye; with the bright purple packaging with black detailing, I really like it! It gives off an 80's vibe which I love!

The tip isn't very sturdy, but it isn't that weak so you can't use it, I can work with it just fine to create a small line close to my lashes.Plus the application is easy with only one coat needed for an opaque colour to build up, as it is well pigmented.

It does however doesn't stay opaque for long, as it does fade if not re-applied during the day and it does also move to the eyelid after time as well. I found that for the first couple of times, it didn't do that, but now that I've been using it for about a week the quality has gone down immensely
(I'm pale)

I won't be re-purchasing this, as it's not worth it. It fades easily and quickly and will also transfer to the upper lid, however it is quite cheap, as it retails for £4.59, so that isn't bad.

Yay:

Does it's job
Easy to apply
Cheap
Well pigmented
Nice packaging

Nay:

Will fade after a while
Transferred to my upper eye lids
The tip isn't as sturdy as it should be
Smudges easily
Fades after a couple of hours

Overall:

Brand: Barry M

Product: Wink black eyeliner pen

Price: £4.59

Where to buy: Superdrug, boots or anywhere that stocks Barry M

Package quality: 5/5

Overall rating: 3/5

Recommend: No. It's not worth it. The quality will decrease quickly and it will smudge and fade. This eyeliner however this eyeliner will get you from a to b, I would not recommend that you should go out to buy this specific item

A few new purchases

Hello lovelies!
So yesterday me, my mum and her boyfriend went to the Trafford Centre in Manchester. I didn't buy a lot as  if you have seen my previous post then you will see that I bought quite a lot then and plus I'm not exactly rich.

Excited purchases I know.

Books:
'The Fault in Our Stars' and The Perks of Being a Wallflower'
I've been after these two books for a while now and I'm so happy that there was a buy one get one half price deal in Waterstones. I was going to look for 'A wreck this journal', but then I realised that I can't draw very well. I'm so happy with these books though!

Socks
I went into Topshop, as I wanted some frilly socks, but I was pleasantly surprised when they had a 'buy three for £8' deal, so I got two frilly pairs and one pair with parrots on. Don't ask why I got ones with parrots on, I couldn't decide on a third pair, so I went for the parrots. The other two pairs have frills around the top, but one pair is pink and the other is grey.

Eyelash Curlers
I wasn't going to buy these, but I had been telling my mum about how I wanted some eyelash curlers because my eyelashes are ridiculous, they are tiny and do not curl at all, so when my mum saw these we decided to get them, as they were only £5. The handles are neon pink which I think is really pretty and it says Topshop on one of the handles.

Food
Nerds and Hershey's chocolate
I have never tried nerds before, but everyone seems to rave about how nice they are, so I decided to try some. I got grape and strawberry. I can't really taste the strawberry very well, but the grape ones are delicious and really strong. I don't think I'll buy these again though, as I'm not too fond of them. Hershey's chocolate is my fave! When I went America a couple of years back I bought a packet of the dark chocolate kisses and they were delicious, so when I found a row of Hershey's chocolate bar I had to pick a dark chocolate one up!

Bag
This was £40 from River Island. I've been after a new bag now for months and months because the strap to mine broke... literally. I was walking to school with my friend and the handle literally snapped and my bag fell to the floor.... it wasn't embarrassing at all, but up until I bought this one I've just had my old bag with the handle tied on. The bag is quite big with either two handles to carry it on your arm or over your shoulder. Inside there is no separate pockets just the one space. There is a zip at the top, but there is also them magnetic buttons that cover the zip up. On the front is a small zip pocket. The bag also have some stud detailing.

Maybelline NY Dream Fresh BB Cream Review

Hello lovelies!

Today I will be sharing my opinion on the Maybelline NY Dream Fresh BB Cream (wow, that's a mouthful.) I got this quite a while ago and tried it once and wasn't really a fan, so I just put it away and never looked at it again. Until I was sorting through my makeup bag and decided to test it again and this is how I feel about it.

The product claims to have eight benefits in one, and those benefits are:
                                                       Creates a natural glow
Compliments skin-tone
SPF 30 UV protection
Hydrates all day
Blurs imperfections
Oil free, non-greasy
Looks visibly smooth
Feels fresh
The reason why I didn't like this product at first is because the coverage isn't great and I have natural red cheeks that I like to cover up and this isn't great for that. This product however is good if you want to achieve a natural look as it does create a 'natural glow', so I think that this product will look fabulous in summer when you don't want to go out with a full face of foundation, as this BB cream feels light and fresh and creates a dewy effect.

I don't think I will wear this a lot as it's staying power isn't good and only lasted half a day which is not helpful, I've tried to love this product, but I just can't. I know a few people are in love with this and swear by it, but I just can't. Mainly because of the coverage I like a happy medium coverage and this to light with a ridiculous staying time.

On a note that has nothing to do with the quality of the product, I'm in love with the packaging I think it's really cute and girly where as other packaging can be quite plain I'm in love with this and how the top bit changes by what tone of colour you have bought (I've got light.)

I will not be repurchasing this product as it also broke me out and not to sound vain, but I hardly get spots, I know people who do and suffer with them, but I've always been lucky and not got them, so after about three days of wearing the product I got a couple of spots to which I'm not happy about.

I will not be re-purchasing this product, as I am really not happy with the fact that it broke me out.

(When I was taking the pictures I may have got a bit to much out and I know that I haven't rubbed it in completely)

My Beauty Wishlist

Hello lovelies, I haven't made a post in a while and since I am stopping painting my nails up until prom, I won't be making a nails of the week post since I need to strengthen my nails and nail varnish isn't exactly the best thing for nails, but one thing that I can do is come up with a wishlist, as I need to go shopping again to get things for my prom which is now less than a month away, eek! Before I start I would just like to say that non of these pictures are mine and all credit goes to their original sources, so here is a list of all the things that I wish to buy:

Katy Perry for Eyelure: Cool Kitty

I have never worn false eyelashes and I think these ones will be a good place to start, as I have heard nothing, but good reviews about these eyelashes or any other lashes by Katy Perry. From the pictures I have seen of these they do not look over the top, but yet they are well defined. The price of these is £5.95 and I think that these could easily be priced at a much higher price than that, as the quality seems so good from what I have read.

Rimmel London 5 in 1 Nail Care

Like mentioned at the top I need to strength my nails and this seems like a good product to do that, as it claims to be 5 in 1 which means has four other benefits other than strengthening my nails and to be honest I don't have a nail top or base coat I did buy one from collection 2000 a while back, but let's not go into that as it is a shockingly bad nail varnish and does nothing of what it claims to do. I will definitely purchase this and I can't wait to get my hands on it!

EOS Smooth Sphere Summer Fruits Lip Balm

This is another product that I have seen plenty of good reviews about, but sadly I don't think you can get them in Britain, if anyone knows if you can please tell me in the comments below! I always see pictures of these all over tumblr and wish that I could get one for myself, these are also supposed to be one of the best lip balm products about and I'm a huge fan of lip balms.

Zoeva - 231 Petit Crease

My make up brush collection is at a very respectable one at the moment, jokes. I feel like I need more brushes and I think this one must be the 2nd one to be added. I feel like this brush will be good for blending eye shadow something that I want to teach myself how to do.

Soap and Glory - Lid Stuff, Whats Nude?

Like I said before, trying to teach myself how to blend eye shadow and then I figured out that if I want to do that then I need to get a good eye-shadow and I think that this will be a good place to start. There are three matte colour's and one shimmer. It also claims that it 'won't flake, won't fade and won't crease' now I don't know if it's just me being gullible  but that sounds pretty good and the colour's are so pretty, so here it is on my wishlist.

I hope you enjoyed this type of post and if you would like to see more posts from me give me a cheeky follow and I might just follow you back, you may always see a haul in the near future, as I am planning to go shopping very soon and a few lot of pennies might get spent.
